Bungay Bank Holiday

Posted on 03 May 2013 by Mark

It’s Bank Holiday time again, and Bungay is ready and waiting.

Suffolk Bank Holidays are always a great opportunity to get out and have a proper visit to places you may not have the time for in the week.

If your’e looking for a good old day out or a long weekend in the countryside Bungay is the place for it.

Bungay has a great choice of places to quench your thirst and restaurants to tide over that hunger.

Bungay is close to many fabulous beaches on the Suffolk coast. Bank Holidays always bring people out onto the sand, even if it’s cloudy!

Grab your flip flops and ice lollies and take a trip down to the beach this bank holiday monday.

Another idea is traipsing around rammed shopping centres for Suffolk bank holiday sale items on the floor, or if you like a trip out on the open water, cruising in the fresh air of the Suffolk broads near Bungay. A difficult decision maybe, but if the latter, Bungay is the option to go for.

Over the coming summer there is loads going on in and around Bungay. This Bank Holiday check out what’s happening on Love Bungay for ideas on what to do and where to go.

Fowl Play At Chicken Roundabout?

Posted on 26 February 2013 by Mark

Mystery surrounds one of East Anglia’s wackiest landmarks this week after five ornamental chickens appeared on the famous Chicken Roundabout, only to disappear again just as mysteriously.

Chicken Roundabout, on the A143 between Beccles and Bungay, got its name from the huge colony of feral chickens that used to inhabit it. The chickens were relocated by the council after the population exploded, and after unwanted pets began to be abandoned on the roundabout.

But the roundabout made the news last week after five ornamental hens appeared, to the surprise and confusion of local residents. Jenny Cook, who used to care for the feral chicken colony along with fellow resident Gordon Knowles, told the BBC: “All five were ornamental chickens and couldn’t get off the ground and the roundabout has no trees with low branches for them to escape from predators.”

But just as suddenly as the hens arrived on the roundabout, they disappeared. Jenny Cook offered only this cryptic clue as to where they ended up: “Someone rescued them and re-homed them and they have been taken to a safe home.”

Do you know anything about these mysterious ornamental hens? If you do, we’d love to hear from you in our comments section below.

Bungay Brewery Launches Artisan Lager

Posted on 19 February 2013 by Mark

Bungay-based St Peter’s Brewery has made a surprising move and added a new handcrafted lager to its more traditional range of real ales, stouts and porters.

As part of the brewery’s efforts to expand its business into the global market, it has created St Peter’s English Lager, a premium alternative to the mass-produced lagers that currently dominate the bar.

St Peter’s is hoping to capitalise on its recent success at the EDP Business awards, where it won the coveted International Enterprise award for its bold new international strategy.

The brewery has increased its production capacity by over 60% in the last year and a half, and the new lager is just the first of three new beers to be unveiled in 2013. Watch this space for more news on this uniquely Bungay brand!
