Murston Bapchild’s 1950’s Radio Show
At The Fisher Theatre, Bungay
Come and be part of the live studio audience for a 1950’s style American Radio Show performed by Murston Bapchild and The Braxton Hicks.
Back in the Forties and early Fifties, American radio was awash with Country and Western music shows. They were the highlight of the week for some folk, who would gather around their radio and roll back the carpet, whole families would tune in, listen and dance. Just like the earlier Medicine Shows, these programmes were sponsored and the bands would sing or recite the advertising for them.
Murston Bapchild and The Braxton Hicks imagine themselves broadcasting one of these shows and you, the audience, have a rare incite into the proceedings.
Bob Delbridge, who takes the part of Murston Bapchild has been carrying this idea for quite a while and has assembled some of his favourite musicians together to form the The Braxton Hicks.
Seonaid Matheson on fiddle, Mike Tavener on lap steel and Pete Earle on double bass accompany him, his guitar and his extra special voice.
If you enjoy classic Country singing laced with sizzling fiddle, luscious lap steel and masterful double bass, a hint of medicine show, the occasional yodel, good fun and humour, then this is the place for you!
Come and join us as we go 'On The Air' for our live broadcast.
Guest performers are a local trio, The Delta Beltas …Tales of illicit stills, street girls, jailhouses, love and jealousy, the Delta Beltas play hokum blues and ragtime, as performed by street musicians and jug bands of America’s Deep South in the 1920s & 1930. The band also performs more modern songs and ballards - some as recent as the 1950’s.
With Alan Fulwood on the guitar and lead vocals, Tim Summerson on steel guitar, harmonica, vocals and kazoo and Anne Steel on double bass and vocals, you will be entertained with harmonious acoustic Americana music.
